I do write bad poetry, on occasion, and make my own videos. I guess you're right about that.


Having never heard of Emily Gould prior to reading the piece on Sunday, I had no preformed opinion of her. That being said: I found her essay to be obnoxious. She is self absorbed, but not self aware and does not write well. I would consider it a very poor editorial choice on the part of NYT Magazine even publish something so irrelevant.


I agree with you -- people shouldn't read her if they're going to trash her later for coming out so publicly.

In your case, it's hard to know where to draw the line. I didn't write about my ex-boyfriend on my blog while we were dating because there were extenuating circumstances -- but now that it's over, I'm GLAD there isn't a play-by-play record of our relationship out there for everyone to see.
